Reading Ebooks from Smashwords.com and Book Recommendation
65
Having just bought an iPad, I decided to download some ebooks. Of course, there are dozens of sites that allow you to download ebooks for you reading device. Among my research, I found smashwords.com— a great site for quality ebooks. They print self-published authors as well as more-established writers. From the point of view of a customer, it’s a literary goldmine. What I quickly discovered about the books on Smashwords was that they are truly unique. Each author gets to write whatever they choose because there is no publisher telling them what to change in their stories. The result is a story that the author is passionate about and plays out exactly how they meant it too. I also like the idea of supporting independent authors that write because they love it and trying to make a little money on the side as well.
I have bought about 10 ebooks all for under $50 total. That’s less than five dollars a book! And these titles are newly published. I am so excited to read the books that I take my iPad with me to the beach, while at Starbucks, or wherever I can get some reading time in. I was debating whether to get an iPad or Kindle from Amazon but decided on the iPad for its versatility and sleek design. Maybe eventually I will also get a Kindle, but for now I am so excited to be able to have hundreds (or more) books available to me on my iPad. Of course, I can also read these ebooks on my ipod and iphone, which makes buying them a no-brainer. I still like the feeling of holding a book in my hands and the fresh smell of its paper is enchanting, but when I am on the go, or don’t want to carry all these books with me, ebooks are the way to go.
I will write reviews on books that I read from time to time (between my reading) so I hope I can recommend some that you like. I am about to finish L.R. Drake’s Short Stories and am falling completely in love with his stories. They are short (good for my attention span) with an interesting view of human emotions and actions. The stories are very intriguing and have even inspired me to start writing! I don’t know how that will go, but here is the link if you want to check them out. Fifty percent of the book is available to read online before you buy it. http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/20587
